SuOn College was founded in 2006 by the Jiangsu
Provincial Department of Education (JPDE) as an overseas education
resource in North America. The name “SuOn” is an integration of
two provincial names -- “Su” representing “Jiangsu” province in
China and “On” for “Ontario” in Canada. Through the establishment
of SuOn College, the JPDE intends to facilitate education cooperation
between the two provinces, Jiangsu and Ontario, and to fulfill
the purposes of a Friendship Accord originally signed by the two
jurisdictions in November, 1985. Twenty years later, in November
2005, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty traveled to Nanjing and renewed
the Memorandum of Understanding and Friendship with the Governor
of Jiangsu Province, Liang Baohua.
This agreement further strengthens the economic, educational, institutional
and governmental ties between the two provinces.
The establishment of SuOn College will develop many more opportunities
for cooperation between the two provinces and enhance a long-standing
friendship. In addition to guidance from the Consul General of the
People’s Republic of China, SuOn receives ongoing advice and assistance
from a variety of government branches and education institutions,
including two Ontario Ministries, Education and Training, Colleges
and Universities, the University of Toronto, York University, the
Univ-ersity of Waterloo, and Seneca College of Applied Arts & Technology.
The founding of SuOn College symbolizes a breakthrough for Jiangsu
educational ization. The Centre will provide easy access
for teachers from Jiangsu to achieve not only improved global awareness
but also to acquire advanced educational methodologies and teaching
